Black and Yellow

It's not just for taxi cabs and bumblees. The current challenge on Sugar Sweet Paper Treats is to create a project using yellow and black as the primary colors. I love this new little gorguss girl with the skull in her hair, she reminds me of Ainsleigh wearing her skull and crossbones headband all the time. I made another gate fold card out of yellow cardstock and covered it with

black and white paper. Then I cut a scallop circle nestie out of the same yellow cardstock and added a plain circle out of the whitewash core'dinations with a yellow core. I decided to give the gorguss girl a yellow dress and black and white tights. I was playing around the other day and colored a girl with pink hair to test my colored pencils. I started looking at it and realized I like the way it looked, so I gave this little girl hot pink hair. Finally, I cut a little bracket shape with my cricut and stamped a sentiment.

Whitewash and Hello Kitty

I just got a box of goodies from Cindy at www.stampingscrapping.com and knew I had to use them for my Design Team Spotlight project this week. In the box was a pack of the new Core'dinations Whitewash cardstock. This stuff is AWESOME! It is white on the outside with a colored core that shows through when you sand or tear it. I also ordered a pack of the new

Sizzix embossing folders called Hello Kitty Spring. The set comes with one larger folder which is the diamond pattern on the card, a medium which is the Hello Kitty body, and two small folder which are Hello Kitty's face and a bouquet of flowers. I embossed the diamond pattern on the whitewash cardstock and sanded it to reveal the green core. The green actually shows up very well. For the border on the side, I used the backside of the whitewash paper so the green would match perfectly. I also matted the Hello Kitty embossing on the whitewash and popdotted it up off the background paper (2 Scoops from Basic Grey), then I added a couple of Petaloo flowers and added a pearl center and cut the sentiment Hello from my lyrical letters cartridge. Then, I wanted to play with the small Hello Kitty Face embossing folder. I decided to see if I could make a 12 inch border for a scrapbook page out of the folder. It worked perfectly. I used the whitewash with a pink core for this one. There are no folder marks as sometimes happen when embossing with the smaller Cuttlebug folders. Overall, I was very impressed with the Sizzix folders. I would definitely recommend them and I'm sure I will be checking Cindy's site to see which other ones I can get my hands on. Also an important fact about the large Sizzix folder is that it embosses the entire front of an A2 card with no border around it.

Red, white, and blue Tilda with some pink too

This card serves many many purposes (my favorite kind). It fits the magnolia-licious color challenge of blue, red, and pink, the just magnolia challenge to use paper piecing on a card, the roses on paper was to use flowers on a card you've entered in another challenge. Well, this one has flowers on the paper and on her cake. I think I may also use it for a few more purposes. I'm really happy with how it turned out. This Tilda with Birthday Cake is one of my newest stamps even though I think she is an older image. I picked a background paper from Sassafras Lass that had the colors red, blue, and pink in it and went from there. I found the polka dot paper in a pack I've had forever. The thing about paper piecing is you have to find paper with a small enough pattern for it to repeat in the small area you have. I was glad that all 3 of the main colors made it into the dress. I cut Tilda out with a nestabilitie and matted her on a larger one. I added a scalloped border out of core'dinations and added a bow made out of tulle. I love tulle and I bought several rolls of it thinking I would use it for something and this is the first time I've actually used it. I think it is my favorite part of the card and I will definitely start using it more often.

Pink and Black Tilda Card

I decided to play along with the magnolia-licious sketch challenge for this month. Here is the sketch and my card is below it.

I always seem to make my Tilda cards very pastel and soft, so I decided to try something different with this one. Pink and black are two of my favorite colors together. So, I found some pink and black paper and used my black magic core'dinations paper with the pink core for the circle accent. I embossed it with my swiss dots folder and sanded it to reveal the pink. Now for the Tilda, in real life, she does match the background paper and her shirt doesn't look so peachy colored. I colred her with my copics = R20, R22, and a litlte R24, C7 and C9 for the pants, E02, E00 and E000 for her skin and Y21 and YR23 for her hair. I matted her on a nestabilitie scalloped oval from the core'dinations and distressed it to reveal the core. I also roughed up all the edges to make the card a little shabbier. I used 3 black chipboard flowers accented with dew drops to finish the card off.

Coffee Time

In case some of you didn't know, I LOVE coffee. I love the taste, the smell, the caffeine- it's all good. I thought I would share a few of my favorite coffee themed projects in honor of a special sale going on at stampingscrapping.com. I wanted this card to resemble a coffee mug with the sleeve on it. I used core'diantions cardstock for the base and embossed it with one of the new

quickutz embossing folders. They work just like the Cuttlebug folders do. For the sleeve, I took some more core'dinations and embossed it with the distressed stripes Cuttlebug folder. I then sanded both pieces of cardstock to bring the embossing out a little more. I stamped the sentiment from the new justrite a little caffeine set, colored the mug with a copic marker, and cut it out with a label 2 nestabilitie. To finish off this coffee card, I added the coffee card scent which is on sale this week at stampingscrapping.com for only $2.75. This scent is a must for a any coffee project and goes perfectly with this just rite set. This next card also uses the just rite

caffeine set for the sentiment. This set is really cool because if you use it with the border like I did in the first card, it uses the 2 inch block, but if you take the border off and just use the center like I did above, it will fit perfectly on the 1 5/8 inch circle block you probably already have. I used lattebella for this card and colored her with copics to match the paper (Bo Bunny). The saying from just rite fit perfectly in my circle nestabilitie. When it was all assembled, I added some scent put it in a clear envelope and it was ready to go! Thanks a Latte

I love coffee and anything to do with the taste or smell of coffee. That's why I chose this image and this paper to use on my entry for the copics colour challenge. The stamp is Riley the moose from Hanna stamps. I colored him with copic markers and then distressed the edges of the stamped image with a stipple brush and distress ink. Then I added it on top of some core'dinations chocolate box cardstock embossed with the cuttlebug. I then added some patterened paper and a sentiment. It is of course topped off with some coffee scented card scents. I wish you could smell it.

More cards

I decided to get a head start on the some of the cards I need for my Cuttlebug card exchange group. Here are a few I came up with for some of our upcoming card exchanges. This is the same owl card I made down below, but I made it a little more girly. I used this one for our get in shape swap where we had to make a card in any shape other than a rectangle. The tree is the matching envelope that Wild Card cuts to go along with the owl card. I cheated a little on this one- not much cuttlebug, just the little border at the top to be the owl's tiara.

This next card is my favorite. I'm not sure which exchange I'm going to use if for or if I can even part with it. I just love it! The tree is from Wild Card and the little birds are from Home Decor. I have no idea what to use this card for, I just wanted to make it because I thought it would turn out cute.

This next card is one I am using for the fun with ink swap where we needed to use ink with our Cuttlebug folders. I inked the large houndstooth folder as well as the smaller folder with a brayer, put the paper in, and ran it through the Cuttlebug. I think it worked really well with the houndstooth folder and made the pattern stand out a little more. As you can see, I've made several cards with birds on them. There are so many cute bird items around right now, I decided to have a For the Birds swap to see what everyone could come up with. I thougth it would be fun to use the birds from Joys of the Season and make a few non Christmas cards with them. For this one, I used the 2 Turtle Doves to make a valentine's themed card. You would never know the birds came from a Chrismas cartridge, they work perfectly for Valentine's Day. I also used the partridge in a pear tree for another card. I cut the pear off the end, so I guess it's just a partridge in a tree. I used the coredinations chocolate box cardstock for the background of this card. The paper is chocolate brown, but when you sand the embossing, the light blue core shows through. Well, this is officially becoming my longest post ever, so I will finish up with one last card. This is the one I am using for the Valentine's Day swap. It features the chandelier from Home Decor. I think I will put something cheesy on the inside like You light up my life Valentine. I mounted the chandelier on a label nestabilitie die and sanded the embossing to make it stand out. The paper and ribbon are from Close to My Heart. I messed up when I cut the card base, so it opens from the side.

More cards

Here are some more. The first card was made with the cuttlebug puzzle die as a background. I left some spaces in between the pieces so that you can see the different pieces. I call this next one Happy Birthday to Ewe. This card uses the new coredinations black magic paper with a pink core. It looks so pretty after it's been sanded.
